Messe Munich 2027 and 2028: Trade Fair Calendar, Travel and Tips

By Daniel Schulz, residir GmbH · Last updated: 13 October 2026

The big Messe Munich 2027 dates are BAU (11–15 January), transport logistic (26–29 April), automatica and LASER World of PHOTONICS (both 22–25 June), EXPO REAL (4–6 October) and productronica (16–19 November). In 2028 bauma follows from 3 to 9 April, with analytica, ceramitec and IFAT shortly afterwards. We checked every date on the official trade fair websites on 13 October 2026; please double-check them there before you book.

In autumn 2027 we are opening a boarding house with 54 apartments at Ländstraße 6 in Lehel. Many of our enquiries come from companies travelling to Munich for a trade fair who first want to know exactly when the city will be busy again. So we have gathered the key Munich trade fairs for 2027 and 2028 in one table, together with directions from Lehel and our planning tips. If you are travelling as a group, serviced apartments in Munich often give you more space than a hotel room.

The table lists the fairs at the exhibition grounds in Riem whose dates the organisers have already published. Most of the big trade shows run on a two- or three-year cycle, which is why Messe München looks completely different in 2027 than in 2028.

Messe München publishes an official Munich trade fair calendar, including all guest events, on its website. It also lists the smaller consumer shows that are not included in our table.

Messe Munich 2027: BAU, transport logistic, EXPO REAL

The year opens with BAU 2027 from 11 to 15 January. It is regarded as the world’s leading trade fair for architecture and building materials and fills every hall. February brings the travel show f.re.e (10–14 February) and INHORGENTA 2027 (19–22 February), both considerably smaller.

transport logistic 2027 follows at the end of April (26–29 April). June gets tight: The smarter E Europe with Intersolar runs from 8 to 10 June, and two weeks later automatica 2027 and LASER World of Photonics 2027 open side by side on 22 June. Rooms become scarce across the whole city during these weeks. If you need accommodation near Messe Munich then, do not wait until May.

IAA 2027 takes place from 7 to 12 September; it is organised by the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry), not by Messe München. EXPO REAL 2027 runs from 4 to 6 October and will therefore probably start straight after the Wiesn (Oktoberfest) ends. productronica 2027 rounds off the year from 16 to 19 November.

Stay for the fair, spend your evenings in town

Our 54 apartments on Ländstraße in Lehel each have their own kitchen, fast Wi-Fi and a 24-hour safe check-in for late arrivals. The journey to the fair takes around half an hour with one change. We open in autumn 2027 and are already taking enquiries for trade fair periods.

bauma 2028 and the other fairs in 2028

bauma 2028 takes place from 3 to 9 April 2028. The construction machinery fair is only held every three years, so after bauma 2025 the next edition is in 2028. Besides the halls, it takes over large outdoor areas and draws visitors from all over the world.

Straight afterwards, two fairs run almost simultaneously: analytica 2028 from 25 to 28 April and ceramitec 2028 from 25 to 27 April. IFAT 2028 follows from 29 May to 1 June. For spring 2028 we therefore expect several consecutive weeks in which accommodation in Munich is pricier and harder to find.

At the time of our research, no dates had been published for electronica 2028 or EXPO REAL 2028. electronica takes place in even-numbered years, EXPO REAL every October. We will add both as soon as the organisers announce them.

Which trade fair is on in Munich right now?

Two big events are still to come before the end of 2026: electronica 2026 runs from 10 to 13 November, and the Heim+Handwerk fair (home and crafts) in Munich from 25 to 29 November 2026. To find out which fair is on at Messe München today or this week, the quickest option is the events calendar on the Messe München website.

One change affects many regular visitors: ISPO has moved to Amsterdam. According to its official website, it takes place from 3 to 5 November 2026 at RAI Amsterdam, no longer in Riem.

Getting to Messe München by U2 and by car

The exhibition grounds are in Messestadt Riem in the east of the city, about ten kilometres from the centre. The address of Messe München is Am Messesee 2, 81829 München. For satnavs, the organisers give Am Messesee 4 for the West Entrance and Am Messeturm 4 for the East Entrance.

By U-Bahn from Lehel

Messe München is served by two stations on the U2 underground line: Messestadt West for the West Entrance and Messestadt Ost for the East Entrance. According to the organisers, the direct ride from Munich Hauptbahnhof (central station) takes about 20 minutes; our guide on getting from Munich Airport to the city centre explains the station in more detail.

From Lehel, take the U5 towards Neuperlach Süd to Innsbrucker Ring, which is three stops. Change there to the U2 towards Messestadt Ost. Door to entrance, we reckon on 25 to 30 minutes (a guide figure, as of October 2026). Check for engineering works and disruptions in the MVV app on the day you travel.

During major fairs the U2 trains are packed in the morning before opening time. Leave a little earlier and you will travel in more comfort.

By car: parking at the fair

For visitors arriving by car, the organisers quote the following prices: open-air car park 15 euros per day, West and East multi-storey car parks 21 euros per day (as of October 2026, may vary by fair). The car parks open two hours before the fair opens. Munich has a low emission zone, so you need a green emissions sticker (Umweltplakette).

During major fairs such as bauma, traffic can back up in the morning on the A94 around the München-Ost motorway junction. From the city centre, the U-Bahn is almost always quicker.

Tips for your trade fair trip to Munich

Book early for major fairs

During BAU, bauma, EXPO REAL and analytica, hotel prices rise sharply across the city, often months in advance. Exhibitors frequently reserve for the next edition straight after the last one. If you only start looking six weeks before a major fair, you will usually find nothing but rooms far out of town or at steep prices. What to look out for with private apartments is covered in our guide to Airbnb in Munich.

Apartments for teams

For a stand team of four to six people, an apartment often works out better value than several single rooms. With a kitchen you can have breakfast in the morning and plan the next day in the evening without hunting for a restaurant. How a boarding house in Munich differs from a hotel is explained in our guide What is a boarding house?

Planning the next fair day in the evening: in an apartment, a team has a shared table and its own kitchen.

For stand builders and installation crews who arrive before the build-up and bring a vehicle, workers’ accommodation in Munich is often the more practical choice. At major fairs, build-up and dismantling take place a few days before and after the show days.

Alternatives to staying right by the fair

There are only a limited number of hotels in Riem itself, and they are the first to sell out during trade fairs. Accommodation in the city centre with a good U-Bahn connection is a real alternative: your journey is slightly longer, but in the evening you are right in the heart of the city. If you want hotel service and a kitchen, take a look at an aparthotel in Munich.

For free evenings or a long weekend after the fair closes, we have written a plan: a weekend in Munich. From Lehel it is a twelve-minute walk to Marienplatz.

Conclusion

If you are travelling to a trade fair in Munich in 2027 or 2028, check the dates early and secure your accommodation well in advance, especially for BAU, bauma and EXPO REAL.
